About Maya Sunflower
As a Missouri based artist since 2017, I've witnessed the ebbs and flows of the local art communities. From my time growing up in Joplin, including being apart of the Spiva Arts Center, Crystal Bridges Art Museum Youth Council in Arkansas, as well as traveling, I have experienced and listened to other stories as well as realizing my own story.

Through my art, I provide a commentary on the opposition of certain aspects of our day-to-day life. For example, in my piece "Momento Mortalitis" I take two seemingly normal aspects of life, conversation and death and create a healthy friction in any room provided. Whether it be the tension between art and consumerism, or Gordon Ramsey and his Hell's Kitchen contestants, find a way to speak on it in a way that brings about a new perspective.
